Michael is an industry executive with more than 35 years of experience in the retirement and insurance industries. As Senior Vice President of Finance and CFO at Copeland Companies (wholly owned by Travelers and, subsequently, CitiStreet), he ran a newly created division that specialized in the sale and administration of 403(b) and 457(b) plans. Michael helped steer the organization’s growth and expansion, from a startup to a mature company, gaining the entrepreneurial experience within the industry that makes him ideally suited to help establish ABMM as a leading financial services company.
Professional Background
Michael is the former Director of Finance for AXA, a position that supported the employer sponsored segment of 401(k), 403(b), and 457(b) plans in the areas of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, growth initiatives, productivity/expense management, variable compensation, pricing, consultant reviews, and economic modeling for new initiatives.
Before joining AXA in 2010, Michael was Vice President of Finance at Prudential Retirement. In 2003, Michael led the financial acquisition team in the $2.1 billion purchase of Cigna Retirement in 2003.
Michael was an Audit Manager with Deloitte where for 8 years he managed numerous corporate SEC engagements including financial services institutions. After Deloitte, he was recruited by The Copeland Companies for a newly formed Retirement Services, Broker Dealer and Registered Investment Advisor specializing in the sale and administration of 403(b), 457(b) and 401(k) plans offering mutual funds, annuities, asset allocation programs, life insurance, long-term care, secondary mortgage loans, and voluntary employee benefits. He led financial operations for over 15 years, as Copeland grew from a startup to a mature corporation with over 2,000 employees, including a captive sales organization in 35 regional sales offices.
Michael brings unique experience to his role at ABMM. After obtaining his master’s in education in 2007, Michael took a brief sabbatical from the financial services industry, becoming a high school teacher.
